KATHMANDU: Dhaka Kumar Shrestha, a Rastriya Swatantra Party MP, has been suspended after an audio of him soliciting for money from medical businessman Durga Prasai surfaced.

He was elected to the House of Representatives (MP) by the party in a proportional election.

A committee has been constituted to investigate the tape, according to RSP Joint Minister Kabindra Burlakoti.

It is said that he has been suspended pending further investigation on the matter.

Along with the suspension of the party, there is a chance that he will be suspended by the parliament as well.

According to reports, Shrestha was suspended for violating the party’s code of conduct.

In the tape, MP Dhaka Kumar Shrestha is heard telling medical expert Durga Prasai that party President Rabi Lamichhane told him that he would have to pay Rs 2 crore to become a minister.

Shrestha, the Minister of Health and Health and Population under Prachanda’s administration, has informed Prasai that he is a member of his party. He has asked Prasai to look after two crore rupees. He has informed Prasai that President Lamichhane is willing to make him a minister if he pays 1 crore immediately.

Prasai has stipulated that he will handle two crore rupees but will have to complete his work later.

RSP is also thought to be formulating a statement on the subject.

In response to Makalu Khabar’s questioning, businessman Prasai stated that the tape makes no difference to him.
