BIRATNAGAR: It has been discovered that Koshi state assembly MPs with houses in Biratnagar have used state funds for house rent.

Bhim Parajuli, the mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, was discovered to have used the state fund in the name of house rent after he was a member of the State Assembly, who requested that his salary be deposited in a bank account and dared not to take his salary.

Makalu Khabar requested information, and it was discovered that Bhim Parajuli, a member of the State Assembly with a house in Biratnagar, had received a house rent of 20,000 rupees.

He lives in a four-story home about three kilometers from the State Assembly. Parajuli’s house is in Biratnagar’s Ward 3 and he also rents it out. But he has been paying his own rent.

Most MPs, like Parajuli, pay 19,000 per month in rent. Seven other Morang MPs, like Bhim Parajuli, pay monthly house rent. Morang residents who understand the rent are Khadga Bahadur Basnet, Gyanendra Subedi, Umakant Gautam, Gayanand Mandal, Man Bahadur Limbu, Malti Kumari Limbu, Leela Ballav Adhikari, Bidya Chamling, and Nursadi Begam.

According to the information given by the Parliament Secretariat, all the members of the State Assembly except 7 who have houses in the capital and those who do not, are taking house rent. Some MPs of Morang have not taken the house rent amount.

Amrit Aryal, Kedar Karki, Sheela Dixit Karki, Jai Prakash Chaudhary, Ganesh Upreti and Geeta Timsina and Geetharani Mahato are among the MPs who do not take house rent.

As a result, the majority of parliamentarians who pay monthly house rent can attend the State Assembly from home. The provision in Act 2075 regarding the facilities of members and officials of the State Assembly provides for a lump sum of 60,000 as house repair expenses for members of the State Assembly within 15 kilometers.

Similarly, State Assembly Secretary Gopal Prasad Parajuli informed that State Assembly members who live 15 kilometers away will pay 19,000 per month in rent.

“After declaring in a form that there is no house in Biratnagar, the members of the State Assembly have given house rent based on the form, Parajuli said, we have given them house rent only after being told that my house is within 15 kilometers.”
