BIRATNAGAR: A clash erupted in Biratnagar between identity supporters and police officers who were protesting the cancellation of the name Koshi State.

Morang police chief Deepak Pokharel stated that the clash began when protestors attempted to breach the police cordon around Biratnagar’s Roadcess Chowk.

He claims that when the protestors began throwing stones at the police, they responded with water cannons and tear gas.

A large number of police officers have been dispatched to quell the protests.

The identitarians had arrived at the Big Hotel in Roadcess Chowk to put pressure on the MPs who were attending an interactive workshop on resource management for achieving sustainable development goals.

Biratnagar’s Roadcess area has become tense as a result of the double clash between police and protestors.

Security personnel are heavily patrolling the area around the hotel. The program was postponed following the performance. After a brief clash, the protestors returned.
