KATHMANDU: The hearing in the case of cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has been postponed.

The hearing was set for today in the court of Judge Madhav Prasad Ghimire.

Earlier, Sandeep’s lawyer, Sarojkrishna Ghimire, requested that the hearing be moved after the judge sentenced him to prison. This case will most likely be heard next week.

Last Sept 6, a girl accused Sandeep of rape. Sandeep was arrested a month later.

Sandeep was remanded in custody on Nov 4 by Kathmandu District Court Judge Madhav Prasad Ghimire’s bench.

However, the High Court overturned the District Court’s decision and ordered Sandeep to be released on a 2 million rupee bond.

Sandeep was included in the national cricket team after the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) lifted his suspension.

Sandeep has since excelled in the triangular one-day series within the country as well as the ICC World Cricket League-2, which was held in the UAE.

Sandeep’s important contribution has helped the Nepali team win 11 of 12 matches and advance to the World Cup qualifying stage.
