Basanta Kunwar appointed as IGP of Nepal Police
During the Friday cabinet meeting, Kunwar was named IGP.
KATHMANDU: The government has appointed Basanta Bahadur Kunwar as Inspector General of Police (IGP).
During the Friday cabinet meeting, Kunwar was named IGP.
With this, Kunwar has become the 30th Inspector General of Police of Nepal Police.
Kunwar was one of several individuals promoted by the government to AIG last week, along with Shyamlal Gyawali, Tek Prasad Rai, Deepak Thapa, and Kiran Bajracharya. The government has chosen one of these five AIGs, the first Kunwar, to be the IGP.
The decision to appoint Kunwar as IGP was made via phone call to Prachanda on Friday afternoon by Sher Bahadur Deuba, the head of the Nepali Congress, the largest member of the ruling coalition.
In response to Deuba’s request, Kunwar was appointed IGP by Prime Minister Prachanda, who preferred to have Shyamalal Gyawali serve as AIG.
