KATHMANDU: The Indian court has sentenced Indian Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to two years in prison for defaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to Indian media he will not be sent to prison right away as he has been granted bail for 30 days and has the right to appeal the order.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate HH Varma held Gandhi guilty under Indian Penal Code section 504, which deals in intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.
