Niraula elected Chair of Film Artistes Association of Nepal

KATHMANDU: Mohan Niraula has won the post of Chairmanship of the Nepal Movie Artists Association, the umbrella organization of artists.

In the 19th General Assembly held on Saturday, he won by getting 235 votes out of 468 votes cast. His closest rival, actress Rejina Upreti, got 209 votes.

Niraula, who was a member of the association when it was founded, has been the general secretary for four terms and the vice chair for three terms in the working committee.

“As a founding member, my attachment and responsibility to the organization is growing. In the coming days, I will work so that the artists feel their own”, said the newly elected president Niraula, “I will do most of the things that I have announced. I will do more to ensure the professional security of artists.” Kabita Gelal received 151 votes, Shiva Hari Nepal ‘Bairagi’ received 140 votes, and Sabin Shrestha received 112 votes for the position of vice chair.

Similarly, Rameshwar Burlakoti won by getting 223 votes and Sunil Katuwal got 260 votes as secretary and Pabitra Acharya was elected unopposed as co-treasurer.

Among the members, Sheetal KC won by securing the highest number of 302 votes.

Other members include Gopal Dhakal ‘Chhande’ (287), Uddhav Prasad Bhattarai (211), Pawan KC (222), Namrata Kharel (187), Pukar Bhattarai (182), Khushbu Khadka (177), Sarita Radhopadhyay (146), Roshan Shrestha (135) and Sameer Lama (133) won by getting votes.

Only 468 votes were cast in the election of the union which has about 700 members.
