KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Papua New Guinea in the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two triangular one-day series on Monday.

Nepal beat PNG’s victory target of 96 runs in 7 overs and 4 balls, losing only one wicket.
Nepal’s opener Kushal Bhurtel scored 33 runs, while another opener, Aasif Sheikh, scored 53 runs.
Previously, PNG, who batted first, could only manage 95 runs after being bowled out in 32 overs.
PNG’s captain, Asad Bhala, scored the most runs (20). Sese Bau was also dismissed for 18 runs, while Charles Amini scored 16. While Hiri Hiri scored 18 runs, the rest of PNG’s batsmen failed to reach double figures.
Former captain Sandeep Lamichhane set a Nepal bowling record. In 10 overs, he took 5 wickets and scored 25 runs. Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi and Kushal Malla each took two wickets, while Sompal Kami took one.
Nepal has moved up to fourth place with this victory, having collected 38 points from 35 games.
Nepal will now play its final League 2 match against the UAE on Thursday.
Nepal will be eligible to play in the World Cup qualifying match in Zimbabwe if they win on Thursday.
