Bidya Devi Bhandari had a farewell meeting with top leaders, shifting to a private residence in today

KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari held a group meeting with top political leaders atRastrapati Bhawan Sheetal Niwas on the last day of her tenure.

President Bhandari met with newly elected President Ram Chandra Poudel, Prime Minister and Chair of the CPN Maoist Centre Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ and leaders of major political parties for a group meeting and tea party.

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, Rastriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chair Rajendra Lingden, Janata Samajwadi Party Chair Upendra Yadav, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Chair Mahantha Thakur, Nagarik Unmukti Party Chair Ranjita Shrestha and other leaders participated in the meeting.

On the occasion, Bhandari thanked the Prime Ministers of various tenures, political leadership, and all those associated with them for assisting her in completing her tenure, and the top leaders congratulated her on her successful completion of her tenure.

Bhandari has been formally bid farewell, according to President’s Office spokesperson Sagar Acharya. She is currently relocating from Sheetal Niwas to Budanilkantha-2 Chapali, her private residence.

Bhandari, who was first elected President of the Democratic Republic of Nepal on October 11, 2072, was re-elected for a second term on 28 Oct, 2015. Bhandari received 39,275 votes in the second presidential election, while Kumarilaxmi Rai received 11,730 votes.

She is the first Nepali woman to be elected to the country’s highest office and the first president to be elected after the country’s constitution was promulgated.

The newly elected President will take the oath of office at Sheetal Niwas on Monday at 1 p.m.
