KATHMANDU: Papua New Guinea (PNG) defeated UAE by 56 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup League-2 match on Friday.
UAE were bowled out for 190 runs in 42.2 overs while chasing PNG’s target of 247 runs at the TU International Cricket Ground.
Aryan Lakra led the UAE in scoring with 51 runs. Out of 72 balls, he hit 5 fours and 1 six. Similarly, opener Mohammad Wasim scored 41 runs off 27 balls, including four fours and three sixes.
Zawar Farid and Chandan Gopal Rizwan both scored 19 runs each. Karthik Meiyappan hit 14 runs, while Rohan Mustafa and Aasif Khan hit 11/11.
Similarly, Riley Hekure took the most wickets for PNG, with three. He bowled 7.2 overs, allowing 16 runs. Similarly, Kabua Morea and Assad Vala each took two wickets.
PNG, who lost the toss and were invited to bat first, scored 246 runs in 50 overs, losing 9 wickets.
Nepal will play UAE on Sunday, PNG on Monday and UAE again on Thursday. Nepal is in fifth place with 34 points in 33 matches. After winning one of the three matches, Nepal will retain the one-day status.
