KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show cause order in the case against Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the Prime Minister and Chair of the CPN Maoist Centre.

The order was issued by the bench following a hearing on Friday before Judge Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada.

Gyanendraraj Aran, a victim whose father was killed during the Maoists’ 10-year armed conflict, petitioned the Supreme Court against Prachanda.

A case was filed against Prachanda three years ago based on his public statement that he accepted responsibility for the deaths of 5,000 people out of the 17,000 who died during the Maoist war.

In order to give priority to this case, the order states, ‘In view of the importance, seriousness, and sensitivity of the matter raised in the writ petition, as it appears desirable to quickly dispose of the presented matter, priority has been given in accordance with Rule 73 (1) of the Supreme Court Rules 2074, in the order.
