Petition filed against PM continues in SC

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is hearing the case against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, alias Prachanda.
The case was tabled Thursday, by a single bench of Judge Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha.
However, as his single bench not sat, the hearing was rescheduled for today.
On 14 Jan, 2017, Prachanda stated in a program in Tundikhel, Kathmandu, that he would accept responsibility for the 5,000 people killed during the conflict.
According to the statement, Gyanendraraj Aran, Kalyan Budhathoki and others have filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding investigation and prosecution against him.
Earlier, their writ was dismissed by the court administration. A joint bench of Justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Hariprasad Phuyal quashed the bench’s order on Friday.
A writ was registered in the court against Prachanda last Tuesday after the bench order was annulled.
Following the hearing of the arguments, the bench will issue an order. Following the order, it will be decided whether or not the case against Prime Minister Prachanda will be pursued.
