KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has stated that the Vice President should be a woman.
The EC stated on Friday that one of the president and vice president should be a woman.
According to the instructions given in accordance with sub-section (2) of section 65 of 2074 regarding the election of the president and vice president, in article 70 of the Constitution of Nepal, it is stated in the statement issued by the commission that there is a provision that “according to this constitution, the election of the president and vice president shall be done in such a way that different genders or communities are represented.” .
Similarly, in Section 16 Subsection (5) of 2074 regarding the election of the President and Vice President, there is a provision that ‘when registering nominations for the post of Vice President, a person of a different gender and community than the person elected to the post of President must be nominated’.
In that case, the Commission has stated that it will only accept nominations for the position of Vice President from people of a different gender or community than the currently elected President.
