KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress’ sister organization, the Nepal Student Union (NSU), has demanded that no genuine students be nominated as candidates.

This demand was made by a group of students close to Congress’s third-line leader, Krishna Sitaula.

The meeting in Kathmandu on Friday requested that no attempt be made to discredit the law, system, or the leader who has been trying to raise the voice of the students for a long time in the name of faction.

In his address to the gathering, Nawaraj Tripathi, a former central member of the Union, warned that if the students, who have long suffered at the hands of the organization, are underestimated, they will raise independent candidates on every campus.

Recalling that he had even gone on a hunger strike to enforce the age limit of 32 years within the organization saying that the law should be implemented, he said that he would openly protest against all evil deeds that are against the law and the interests of students.

In the meeting held under the chief hospitality of Kundanraj Kafle, former general minister of the Nepali Congress and Bagmati province whip, Congress Baglung district president Jeet Sherchan, former general minister of the Nepali Congress Baldev Timalsina, former vice president Ram Prasad Adhikari, former joint minister Parameshwar Shah, former central member Nawaraj Tripathi, youth leader Indu Sharma, Leela Ball Dahal, Dipendra Chhetri, Sushil Bhatt, Deepak Ojha, Nirajan Shahi, Manish Rayamajhi, Rajkumar Upreti, Mahesh Poudel, Shubhash Ghimire, Prashant Lamichhane, Binod Baral and other hundreds of leaders and activists of the valley are said to have participated.
