KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Papua New Guinea by a score of 52 runs.

Nepal defeated PNG in the ICC World Cup Cricket League-2 triangular series on Thursday at the TU Cricket Ground.

Nepal set PNG a target of 298 runs after losing the toss and being invited to bat.

In pursuit of that target, PNG lost all of their wickets in 47.1 overs and scored only 245 runs.

Batting in the second innings, Norman Bhanuwa played a half-century of 60 runs off 55 balls for PNG. Bhanuwa made 3 fours and 4 sixes.

Tony Ura scored 50 runs off 44 balls in his half-century. Sandeep Lamichhane dismissed Ura, who hit nine fours.

Captain Assad Bhala scored 42 runs before being bowled out by Kushal Malla. Kiplin Doriga, the starter, was run out for 26 runs.

Riley Heruke drove in 20 runs, while Charles Amini drove in 14. Sandeep Lamichhane took four wickets to help Nepal easily defeat PNG. Dipendra Singh Airi claimed two wickets. Kushal Malla had one wicket.

Sandeep took four wickets and scored 37 runs in ten overs. Dipendra Singh Airee took two wickets for 37 runs in nine overs and one ball. Kushal Malla took the wicket after 60 runs were scored in 10 overs.

Nepal had batted first and scored 297 runs in 49 overs.

Opener Aasif Sheikh scored 110 runs in 110 balls for Nepal. He scored his first century in ODIs. Another opener Kushal Bhurtel scored 45 runs. There was a partnership of 110 runs between these two.

Bhim Sarki scored 44 runs, and captain Rohit Paudel added 30. Gyanendra Malla scored 11 runs while Aarif Shaikh was dismissed for 15 runs.

Dipendra Singh Airee scored 7 runs, while Karan KC scored 8.

The Nepali national cricket team’s opener batter has now scored 1000 runs in ODIs. Asif is the second Nepali player to reach 1000 runs in ODIs.

Captain Rohit Kumar Paudel had previously scored 1000 runs. Asif has appeared in 32 One-Day Internationals for Nepal. In one-day internationals, he has eight fifties. On September 7, 2021, he made his Nepal debut.
