KATHMANDU: The election for the country’s third president is still underway. From 10 a.m., the top leaders have been voting at Parliament House in New Baneshwor.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress Chair Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN Unified Socialist Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal also cast votes.
All three top leaders who agreed to back the Congress candidate voted not long ago.
The President’s Ram Chandra Poudel and Subas Chandra Nemwang have already voted. Voting will be open until 3 p.m., and the results will be announced four hours later.
Poudel of the Congress Party has the support of nine parties, whereas Nemwang of the UML has only his own party.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s five-year term expires on Sunday.
The Election Commission will choose a new president before his term expires.
