KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has emphasized the importance of encouraging young people to be enterprising and self-sufficient.

In a message congratulating the National Youth Council on its eighth year, he stated that economic prosperity can be achieved if the youth are independent and self-sufficient.

He stated that in order to positively mobilize the power of youth, who are viewed as the drivers of political, social, cultural, and economic change, the council must move forward by developing and implementing youth-centered policies and programs.

‘The council has been developing and handing over the model of necessary policies and programs to various government agencies,’ said Prime Minister Dahal.

In his congratulatory message, he stated that, despite a limited budget and resources, the council has taken a positive lead in the fields of youth awakening, empowerment, and leadership development in a relatively short period of time.

Prime Minister Dahal also lauded the Council’s positive initiatives for the advancement of youth development. “Without the burden of the youth of the parental government institutions of all the youth, the Council will move forward more effectively in the task of nation-building,” he said in a congratulatory message.

Similarly, Surendra Basnet, the chairman of the council, stated that the youth should be made self-employed and self-reliant as they are the backbone of building a prosperous nation.

He stated that a socialist-oriented state system must be built by connecting education with labor, labor with skills, skills with production, employment, and entrepreneurship, and by making youth an integral part of development and prosperity.

On 2 March, 2016, the government established the council to promote youth rights and interests, as well as youth leadership. The council currently has structures at the state, district, and local levels.
