Route test for city bus operation in Biratnagar

BIRATNAGAR: The initial phase of the route test has been conducted for the city bus that is going to be put into operation in Biratnagar.

Shilpa Nirala Karki, the city’s acting mayor, stated that the route was tested to determine how many capacity buses should be operated on the city’s roads and modes.

Two buses were tested on different routes throughout the city on Thursday. Acting Mayor Karki and Chief Administrative Officer Bishnu Prasad Koirala boarded the bus and tested the route themselves.

Through the executive meeting, the metropolitan has already decided to operate the city bus. He stated that the metropolitan will operate the city bus thanks to the investment board.

“We conducted a route trial to determine how many size and capacity buses are easy to operate on which routes,” Karki explained. “After the trial is completed, we will begin city bus operations within two to three months.”

Senior citizens and people with disabilities will be able to travel for free. Acting Mayor Karki stated that concessions will be given to women and students, and services will be provided at a reduced cost to others. According to the city, the bus will be air-conditioned.

The metropolitan has planned to run buses along various routes such as Milan Chowk, Dhat, and Keshaliya. The metropolis will operate the city bus in order to facilitate the movement of the general public.

Karki stated that 19 city buses are ready to go in the first phase. According to Chief Administrative Officer Bishnu Prasad Koirala, the process of launching city buses in collaboration with the private sector and the investment board has reached its conclusion.

The procurement process for city bus operation has also advanced under the leadership of Mayor Nagesh Koirala, with discussions at various stages.
