KATHMANDU: Pre-monsoon season has begun across the country, according to the Department of Water and Meteorology, with the end of winter.

According to meteorologist Manju Basi, the pre-monsoon that began today, March 1, will last three months.

She said that the pre-monsoon period will last until March, April and May, after which the monsoon will begin.

During the pre-monsoon period, there is a possibility of thunder/lightning in the afternoon along with wind and hailstorm, the meteorologist said. Local wind is said to have a strong influence during this weather system.

Meteorologist Basi said that light rain could fall in one or two places in the hilly areas this afternoon due to the influence of local winds.

According to her, there is a chance of light rain and snowfall in one or two locations in the Sudurpaschim and Karnali States today.

According to the Department of Water and Meteorology, this winter has seen the least amount of rain in 14 years.

A few days ago, at the end of the winter season, there was light to moderate rain in some places, including Kathmandu and Pokhara.

According to the department, there has been low snowfall in the high mountain and Himalayan districts this winter.
