KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader and lawmaker, MP Chandra Bhandari, who was injured in a cooking gas cylinder explosion last night, has been taken to India for further treatment.

Bhandari has been taken to Mumbai-based National Skin Burn Centre on a Shree Airlines air ambulance for further treatment, said NC central committee member, Ajay Babu Siwakoti.

Earlier, injured Dr Bhandari was rushed to Kirtipur-based Kirtipur Burn Hospital following the incident.

The Hospital recommended to take Dr Bhandari outside the country for further treatment.

He was flown to Mumbai by a special (chartered) flight of Shree Airlines on Thursday afternoon.

A group of medical personnel has also accompanied him. According to Minister Padam Giri’s Secretariat of Health and Population, the team consists of three doctors and three paramedics from Norvic Hospital. Dr. Pradip Tiwari, Anesthesia Critical Care Dr. Brihaspati, and Flight Doctor Dr. Roshan Sharma are present, as are three paramedics in the ER, Dinesh Rai, Sagar Maharjan, and Raj Tamang.

As there was a risk of irritation and swelling in the breathing tube, the doctor informed that a tube was placed in the breathing tube (by intubation) and oxygen was given.

Dr Bhandari and his mother, Harikala Bhandari, were injured in the incident that took place at their residence in Buddhanagar. However, the mother succumbed to burns this morning.

Dr Bhandari has sustained 25-30 percent burns including on his both hands and legs, according to the Hospital.
