1 killed, 7 injured in train explosion in Pakistan’s Punjab

ISLAMABAD: At least one passenger was killed and seven others were injured on Thursday in an explosion in a train in the Sahiwal district of Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province, rescue service reported.

According to the reports, the incident took place in the morning near Chichawatni railway station of the district when suddenly a blast occurred in a compartment, which killed a female passenger on the spot.

Rescuers reached the site and shifted the dead and the five injured passengers to the hospital, the rescue service said.

Two other injured were given first aid on the spot and were not required to be taken to the hospital, it added.

The reason for the blast has not been found yet and a further investigation was underway, said the rescue service.

The ill-fated Jaffar Express was reportedly going from the country’s southwest Quetta city of Balochistan province to Lahore city of Punjab.
