POKHARA: The water level in Pokhara’s Phewa Lake has dropped due to a long period of drought. Pokhara hasn’t seen rain since Dashain.

Kiran Acharya, Head of Water Resources and Irrigation Division Office Kaski, informed that the lake’s size had shrunk by 1 meter due to the lack of rain.

He stated that the lake’s water level has dropped by 5 billion liters. “If one meter falls, 5 billion liters of water will be lost,” he said. Even after the dam was repaired last year, the lake’s water level dropped by 2 meters.

The lake is now receiving water from the Harpan river.

The lake has been depleted of 2000 liters of water per second for the Seti hydropower project. He stated that if it rains heavily one day, the reduced surface will return to its original condition.
