High-level political mechanism meeting begins in Baluwatar

KATHMANDU” The meeting of the high-level political mechanism for running the government continues. The meeting started a few moments ago at the Prime Minister’s residence, Baluwatar.
Prime Minister Dahal, UML Chair Oli, Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair Rabi Lamichhane and RPP Chair Rajendra Lingden are participating in the meeting.
Top leaders of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), Nagarik Unmukti Party and Janamat Party were not present in the meeting. The leaders of these parties did not even go to the meeting on Friday.
In the ongoing meeting, issues such as the election of the president and vice president, the re-participation of the National Independent Party in the government, etc. are being discussed.
Earlier, these issues were also discussed in the meeting held on Friday. But the meeting could not reach any concrete conclusion.
Prachanda, who became the Prime Minister with the support of 7 parties including UML, is in favor of national consensus for the presidency.
According to the agreement reached on Dec 25, UML is of the position that UML should be a candidate for the post of President. Other parties of the coalition are also close to UML’s position.
There will also be a discussion about re-incorporating the Rastriya Swatantra Party, which left the government a few days ago due to the citizenship issue of President Rabi Lamichhane and the loss of the post of Home Minister.
In Friday’s meeting, Prime Minister Prachanda and UML Chair Oli asked the RSP to participate in the government.
The RPP has also been asking the RPP to participate in the government.
