KATHMANDU: Prakash Deuba of the Nepali Congress and Naresh Shahi of the Nepal Unified Socialist Party have been appointed to the Sudurpaschim State government as ministers.

Deuba has been given the responsibility of Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Shahi as Minister of Economic Affairs and Planning.

Kamal Bahadur Shah, the newly appointed Chief Minister, took the oath of office today.

Rajendra Singh Rawal, who took over as Chief Minister from the CPN-UML a month ago, was defeated in a vote of confidence in the State Assembly, and Shah, the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, was appointed as Chief Minister.

On Thursday, Shah was appointed chief minister by state chief Devraj Joshi after outgoing chief minister Rawal resigned after losing a vote of confidence.

Rajendra Singh Rawal, elected Chief Minister on behalf of the CPN-UML under Article 168 of the Constitution, did not receive a vote of confidence from the State Assembly, and after Shah, the leader of the Congress State Parliamentary Party, submitted his claim to the position of Chief Minister under Article 168 of the Constitution, Chief Minister Joshi appointed him.

Resham Lal Chaudhary-affiliated Nagarik Unmukti Party’s 7 MPs did not give a vote of confidence to Rawal saying that their demands had not been met.
