KATHMANDU: The import of rose flowers has been prohibited by the government.

Targeting Valentine’s Day i.e 14th February, the import of rose flowers has been banned until further notice by issuing another notification.

Savitri Baral, Head of Plant Quarantine and Pesticide Management Center, Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Harihar Bhawan, issued a circular informing the public that the import of rose flowers has been prohibited for some time.

Rose flowers cannot be imported from Kakarbhitta, Bhantabari, Biratnagar, Malgamba, Jaleshwor, Birgunj, Tatopani, Airport, Rasuwa, Bhairahawa, Krishnanagar, Gaddachauki, Lomanthang, Baitadi.

According to the Plant Quarantine and Pesticide Management Center, the import has been halted for the time being due to the risk of plant diseases. The Center has requested that it be understood that instead of stopping, it is on hold.

According to Mahesh Chandra Acharya, the center’s information officer, the import has been halted immediately due to the possibility of diseases and pests in vegetable products.

‘In Nepal, roses and other plants are vulnerable to disease. It has now been halted due to the lack of a risk assessment. Acharya stated that because the technical committee meeting is still pending, no further decisions will be made until after that.
