Writ registered in SC demanding that Deuba not be made leader of opposition party
Judge Sapana Pradhan Malla's bench has ordered that a writ be issued against Deuba.

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a writ demanding that Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba not be appointed as the opposition party’s leader.
Judge Sapana Pradhan Malla’s bench has ordered that a writ be issued against Deuba. However, on Feb 1, the bench overruled the bench’s decision and ordered that it be registered.
The Supreme Administration previously rejected the writ filed by advocate Bimal Prasad Pokharel
He filed an application against the writ after refusing to register it. Judge Pradhan directed that the writ be registered and heard.
The petition requests that the decision to make Deuba the leader of the opposition party be reversed as the Nepali Congress has lost its status as the opposition party by giving the Prime Minister a vote of confidence.
Deuba has been asked to be barred from attending the Constitutional Council meeting and from serving as an opposition party as a result of his vote of confidence in the Prime Minister.
The petitioner also requests that Deuba be denied any service from the Parliament Secretariat. The Nepali Congress has given its support to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.
Deuba, the Congress Parliamentary Party leader who chose not to participate in the government despite receiving a vote of confidence, has been designated as the main opposition party’s leader.
