Yeti shipwreck: Preliminary findings of engine failure

KATHMANDU: The commission has investigated the cockpit voice recorder to investigate the plane crashed that occured on Magh 1 (Jan 15).

The commission investigated the flight data recorder and cockpit voice records in order to investigate the Yeti plane crash in Pokhara.

According to the commission, a preliminary conclusion has been reached that the crash was caused by an engine malfunction.

A press release stated that the propellers of both engines went into feather during the landing, and the crash occurred when the power idler in the base leg failed.

‘During the landing of the crashed plane, it seems that the propellers of both engines went into the feather in the base leg,’ said the inquiry commission.

A study of flight data recorders and cockpit voice recorders was conducted in Singapore. According to the commission, various technical and human aspects were analyzed with the participation of representatives of Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB) Singapore, TSB Canada, P&W Canada and EASA under the leadership of the commission. During that time, various flight and technical aspects were further studied in the ATR ship simulator in Singapore.

According to the statement, the full report will take some time to complete, but the preliminary report will be available soon.

The plane carrying 68 passengers and 4 crew from Kathmandu to Pokhara crashed at Seti gorge shortly before landing airport. The crash killed everyone.
