New National Children’s Policy draft prepared

KATHMANDU: The Nepalese government has prepared a draft of the National Children’s Policy, 2079.

The Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens is about to repeal the Children’s Policy, 2069, and replace it with a new and more timely policy for child rights and protection.

Today, the draft policy was discussed in a program hosted by the ministry, the National Council for Child Rights and the Children as Zone of Peace National Campaign (CZOP). Following approval by the Council of Ministers, the policy will be implemented.

Dilliram Sharma, the Ministry’s Secretary, asked for feedback on the draft prepared by the Ministry and stated that the government is committed to enforcing national and international child rights laws

Yamlal Bhusal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry, stated that a draft of the new policy has been prepared with the long-term goal of ‘building a child-friendly nation with guaranteed child rights’ and’respecting, protecting, and promoting the overall development and rights of every child’. He also informed about the Ministry’s approved action plan for implementing the Children Act, 2075 and Regulations, 2078.

Rajesh Sharma, Chair of CZOP, said that the civil society will fully support the government in the implementation of child rights and education rights and urged the government to increase cooperation.
