Demonstration at Maitighar against Pokhara High Court verdict (photos included)

KATHMANDU: Protest against the acquittal of actor Purna Bikram Shah (Paul Shah) by Pokhara High Court was held today (Monday) at Maitighar in Kathmandu.

Azad Morcha protested today, claiming that a minor accused of rape had been acquitted. They also chanted slogans during the demonstration.

The Pokhara High Court acquitted Shah on Sunday, Feb 26, ruling that the prosecution’s claims were insufficient.

On Aug 20th, the Nawalpur District Court acquitted Shah of the rape charge but sentenced him to 2 years and 6 months in prison for child sexual abuse, a 25,000 fine, and compensation of one million rupees to the victim.

However, the Pokhara High Court acquitted him due to a lack of evidence. Today, Shah was released from prison.
