Law does not prevent former Chief Justice & Judge from becoming President Vice President: Judge Society

Judges Association of Nepal issued a statement on Thursday in response to the Supreme Bar Association's announcement on Wednesday that the former Chief Justice and former judges should not be appointed President and Vice President.

KATHMANDU: According to the Judges Society of Nepal, the Nepalese Constitution and laws do not preclude former Chief Justices and judges from becoming President, Vice President, or other elected political positions.

The Judges Association of Nepal issued a statement on Thursday in response to the Supreme Bar Association’s announcement on Wednesday that the former Chief Justice and former judges should not be appointed President and Vice President.

Former Chief Justices and judges have held that position in Nepal in the past, and the Bar Association has objected to the Bar Association’s opinion on Wednesday, stating that such a practice exists in many countries around the world.
