KATHMANDU: On the occasion of Martyr’s Day, the Central Working Committee of Nepal Student Union has lit a lamp at Shahid Gate on Monday.
Dujang Sherpa, Central Chair of Nepal Students Union, along with central officials were present in the event.
There are the statues of Shukraraj Shastri, Dashrath Chand, Dharma Bhakta Mathema and Gangala Shrestha at Shahid Gate. Lakhan Thapa is regarded as Nepal’s first martyr.
This martyr gave their life for democracy and civil liberties by bringing the country’s autocratic Rana rule to an end.
After 104 years of Rana rule, democracy was restored in the country in 2007 BS.
Every year Martyr’s Day is celebrated on Magh 16 (Jan 3) to commemorate and honor the sacrifices of martyrs.
