EC unveils election schedules of President, Vice President

KATHMANDU: The date for the presidential and vice-presidential elections has been set by the Election Commission. The presidential election will be held on March 9, according to the Election Commission.

The Election Commission held a press conference on Monday and announced the date of the presidential and vice-presidential elections.

According to Election Commission spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Paudel, the election process for the position of Vice President will begin after the President is elected on Thursday, March 9.

He stated that, while the Election Commission of the President and Vice President attempted to make necessary preparations for voting in all seven provinces, voting would not be possible immediately, and that voting would take place in Kathmandu.

He informed that a schedule has been prepared for the publication of voter list on Feb 22 for the presidential election, claims, objections and complaints on the Feb 22 and 23, petitions and complaints on the 23 and 24.

The commission said that it will publish the final voter list on Feb 24, register the nomination papers on the Feb 25, publish the list of candidates on the Feb 25, file complaints against the candidates on the Feb 26, and decide on the nominations and complaints on the Feb 26 and Feb 27.

Similarly, Paudel, the Commission’s spokesperson, stated that the list of candidates will be published on Feb 27, candidates will withdraw their names on Feb 28, the final list of candidates will be published on Feb 28 evening, and voting will take place on March 9.

According to the commission, the vice president election will take place on March 17. On March 11, nomination papers for the election of the Vice President will be accepted. Time has been given for protesting claims on March 12and the final list of candidates will be published in the evening of the same day.
