Woman attempting to save tenant from self- immolation dies

KATHMANDU: A woman who went to save a man who attempted self-immolation in Pokhara was burned to death.

Sangita Sapkota, 40, was burned and injured while attempting to save a 43-year-old Krishna Bahadur Chhetri who attempted self-immolation at 13 Kahunkhola in Pokhara Metropolitan City.

Sapkota was taken to Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences for treatment after being seriously injured.

She died during treatment on Sunday night. 80% of her body had been burned.

Chhetri ran a stationery store out of Sapkota’s house. On Sunday, he attempted suicide by sprinkling gasoline on himself. 25% of Chhetri’s body has been burned.

The reason behind his attempt to die by suicide is not yet disclosed, said police.
