Today is also called 'Vasant Panchami' with the belief that the sun will move north and the day will be longer and the spring season will begin.

KATHMANDU: Every year on the day of Magha Shukla Panchami, ‘Shri Panchami’ festival is being celebrated across the country with sincere worship and devotion to Goddess Saraswati, Goddess of Vidya. Vardayini, Buddhidatri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta and Bhuwaneshwari are called by such names.
Being the goddess of learning and creation, especially writers, artists, journalists, teachers and students worship their tools of art, pen, paper, pencil and musical instruments, etc. as Saraswati. Saraswati is considered by tantrics as the star goddess for Tantra Siddhi. Today is also called ‘Vasant Panchami’ with the belief that the sun will move north and the day will be longer and the spring season will begin.
In the Rigveda, it is mentioned that by worshiping Brahmayani, the consort of Brahma, who is famous by the name of Vagdevi, all kinds of knowledge, accomplishments and wisdom are obtained. This is why Saraswati Puja is given great importance. It is believed that if one starts studying after worshiping Saraswati these days, one will attain perfection.
Nowadays, it is believed that one should not watch Sait for social and religious activities like marriage, fasting, keeping a cave and bel bibaha (ihi). On this day, it is considered auspicious to start education for children and to pierce their nose and ears. Devotees, especially students, flock to the temples of Swayambhu, Maitidevi and Neela Saraswati in Garidhara, Lele in Lalitpur and other districts in the valley to offer prayers from early this morning.
There is a religious belief that knowledge and wisdom are ignited in the seven horns offered to Saraswati. On this occasion, Basant Shravan is performed at Hanuman Dhoka Palace. After the establishment of a democratic republic in which the king goes until the end of the monarchy in Vasant Shrawan, the presence of the president as the head of state has started.
