KATHMANDU: The Shequal Foundation, in partnership with Ncell Axiata Limited, is organizing the ‘Hacking for Humanity Hackathon,’ which is aimed at girls in information technology (IT) from across the country. The hackathon will take place from Feb 10 to 12.

Ncell has partnered with Shequal Foundation for the country’s largest all-female hackathon as part of our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and to support women in the field of ICT. Girls in Tech and Women in Big Data are two other hackathon partners.

According to the Shequal Foundation, participating teams work together to create unique and impactful prototype solutions to problems in areas such as health, education, and agriculture, among others, through this collaborative and innovative event. College activation is ongoing as part of the preparation and will take place in all seven states until the end of Jan 2023.

Ncell believes that this hackathon will help girls advance their careers in IT by exposing them to new opportunities. This event encourages female and non-binary hackers to collaborate, brainstorm, and innovate for a better cause.

Interested girls should form a team of three girls and register for the hackathon using the Ncell App by scanning the event registration code. The shortlisted teams will be announced on Feb 3.

Various colleges are organizing pre-event activities centered on design thinking, entrepreneurial finance, the business model canvas, story presentation idea pitching, and delivery.

According to the Shequal Foundation, such targeted initiatives improve women’s representation in IT-related industries in Nepal and aid their equal participation in the digital economy, thereby benefiting not only individual women and their families but also society and the economy.

The event will feature more than 16 mentors and 11 jury teams. The first, second, and third place teams will receive exciting prizes.
