Women’s Boxing Tournament: Susma’s historic victory in Thailand (with photos)
The medal won by Susma has been at the highest position since the establishment of Nepal Boxing Association.
KATHMANDU: In the women’s minimum weight 48 kg weight group, Besyenwei Zarnaguli of Mongolia was defeated by Referee Stop Contest (RSC) in the third round of the ASBC Asian U22 Men’s and Women’s Boxing Tournament held in Bangkok, Thailand, to set up a final meeting with Fojilova Farjona of Uzbekistan. Fojilova of Uzbekistan defeated Yodwari Thipsatcha of Thailand by a score of 5:0.
The medal won by Sushma has been at the highest position since the establishment of Nepal Boxing Association.
Previously, Nepal had only won a bronze medal at the Asian level.
Sushma defeated the Lithuanian players and advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Youth Women’s Boxing Championship in Poland in 2021, where she finished sixth in the world rankings.
Similarly, in the other match held today in the Woman Featherweight 57 kg weight group, Nepal’s Hema Rai was defeated by Mongolia’s Battur Zolzargal by 5:0 points, limiting her to bronze.
Prior to this, Hema Rai defeated the Singaporean players by a score of 5:0 and advanced to the semi-finals.
