KATHMANDU: Makwanpur district court ruled that the murder of 24-year-old Sushmita KC of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-4 was done by the family and sentenced the mother-in-law, two sisters and son-in-law to life imprisonment.

District Court Makwanpur Judge Shri Prasad Sanjel led by the bench that sat on Friday, 8-year-old father-in-law Prakash Thapa, elder sister-in-law Durga Thapa, younger sister-in-law Sita Thapa and son-in-law Arun Karki have been sentenced to 25 years of life imprisonment and Sushmita’s mother-in-law has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

Sushmita was brutally murdered in the night of 15 June, 2020 in a house located in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-4 Karra.

In the police investigation, it was revealed that her father-in-law hit Sushmita on the head with a stick from behind while sister-in-law was eating with Sita in the kitchen. After Sushmita pleaded to save her life, younger sister-in-law Sita hit her on the head with a spice grinder. Sushmita’s body was found brutally murdered in the kitchen. The family tried to make Sushmita’s murder a suicide.

Rupendra Thapa, the husband of Sushmita, who died in Kapilvastu Banganga Municipality, died in a motorcycle accident on 10 October , 2019.

Their marriage took place on 1 May , 2019. After the death of her husband in an accident, it was revealed in the police investigation that they killed her to get the insurance money.
