KATHMANDU: UML’s Devraj Ghimire has been elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Ghimire was elected after defeating Ishwari Neupale of Congress in the election held on Thursday. He got 167 votes in his favor.

Ghimire is an elected Member of Parliament from Jhapa Constituency No. 2. He participated in the House of Representatives for the first time after defeating Hari Rana of the Maoists.

The candidate Ghimire was voted by JSP, Nagarik Unmukti Party and three independent parliamentarians apart from the ruling Maoist Center, National Independent Party, RPP and Janamat Party. have said.

There are 79 MPs from UML, 32 from Maoist, 20 from RSP, 14 from RPP and 6 from Janamat. Similarly, adding 12 MPs from JSP, 4 MPs from Nagarik Unmukti Party and three MPs, 170 votes fell in favor of Ghimire. .

Congress candidate Neupane has been supported only by Unified Socialists, LSP and Rastriya Janamorcha.
