JANAKPURDHAM: Madhesh State Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal has been elected.

Mandal, a CPN-UML MP, was elected to the State Assembly today. He received 103 votes.

Govinda Neupane, the senior member who presided over the State Assembly, announced his election as Speaker.

Today, the State Assembly was attended by 103 parliamentarians. Out of these, 29 MPs voted for Jangilal Rai, the Nepali Congress’s candidate for speaker.

Rai was supported by 22 Congress MPs and 7 CPN-S MPs, according to reports. CPN-S had also decided to stand in favor of Rai.
