Yeti plane crash: Expert team of ATR manufacturing company in Nepal

KATHMANDU: An expert team from France arrived in Nepal on Sunday morning to investigate the Yeti Airlines ATR plane crash in Pokhara.

Suresh Adhikari, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, announced the arrival in Nepal of a nine-member expert team from the ATR aircraft manufacturer. “An expert team of nine from the ATR manufacturing company arrived in Pokhara today,” he said.

Following the plane crash, the government established a five-member accident investigation commission, which will be coordinated by former secretary Nagendra Ghimire.

As aviation experts, the commission includes retired Lieutenant Deepak Prasad Bastola and retired Captain Sunil Thapa of the Nepal Army.

The commission also includes air maintenance expert Ekraj Jang Thapa and joint secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Budhisagar Lamichhane as member secretaries. The investigation has already begun, according to the commission.

The bodies of 70 people killed in the plane crash have been recovered, but the search for the remaining two continues. 22 of the rescued bodies will be identified and returned to their families in Pokhara, while the remaining bodies will be transported to Kathmandu by Nepali Army helicopter.
