Folk singer Nira Chhantyal dies in Yeti Air plane crash

KATHMANDU: Folk singer Nira Chantyal was killed in a plane crash of Yeti Airlines that was flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara at 10:33 on Sunday morning.

Chhantyal’s death has been confirmed by his sister Hira Chhantyal. According to her, Nira had gone to participate in the 4th Sanga Bahadur Tathabja Memorial Cup program to be held in Pokhara.

Folk singer Chhantyal published one of her pictures this morning and wished on Maghe Sankranti today morning.

She wrote, ‘On the auspicious occasion of Maghe Sankranti, I express my best wishes to all the parents, brothers and sisters living in the country and abroad.’

The event scheduled to be held in Pokhara has been postponed after receiving information about the death of singer Chhantyal.

So far, five people have been identified among those who died in the plane crash.

The plane had 68 passengers including 11 foreign nationals and 3 children.

Of which 41 are women and 27 are men.

There are 5 people from India, 4 people from Russia, 2 people from Korea, 1 person each from Ireland, Argentina, Australia and France.
