Sandeep Lamichhane being released today after 70 days

KATHMANDU: Sandeep Lamichhane, a cricketer, will be released from jail today after being granted bail. Lamichhane, accused of raping a minor, was granted bail of Rs 20 lakh and will be released from prison today.

According to the Central Jail Administration, Lamichhane will be released today after completing the process, as it is stated in the Patan High Court order that he will be released only after paying 20 lakhs.

A Patan High Court bench of Justices Dhurbaraj Nanda and Ramesh Dhakal ordered Lamichhane’s conditional release.

He was arrested on the charge of rape of a minor on Sept 5 last year. On Sept 6, a report was filed at Gaushala Police Circle on behalf of the minor, alleging that Lamichhane had taken her to a hotel in Tilganga and raped her on the night of Aug 21. The next day, on Sept 7, the police filed a complaint against Lamichhane and started an investigation.

Kathmandu District Court ordered Sandeep to be remanded in custody on Nov 4. Judge Madhav Prasad Ghimire ordered the accused Lamichhane to be remanded in prison pending the conclusion of the case.

Coincidentally, the day he was imprisoned was Friday, Nov 4 and the day he was released from prison was also Friday Jan 12. Sandeep will be released after 70 days.
