Aston Villa sign Alex Moreno from Real Betis

KATHMANDU: Aston Villa have signed Spanish left-back Alex Moreno from Real Betis for an undisclosed fee, the Premier League club said on Wednesday.

Since joining Betis in 2019, the 29-year-old made 122 appearances, scoring six goals and making 14 assists. He won the Copa del Rey with the club last season.

Moreno signed a 3-and-a-half-year contract with Aston.

Aston Villa paid £13.2 million for the signing of the 29-year-old defender.

This is Aston Villa’s first signing since Unai Emery took over as manager.

Moreno had started 14 out of Betis’ 15 La Liga games this season and has made 122 appearances for the club since joining from Rayo Vallecano in 2019.

Moreno appeared in 122 matches for Betis.

Moreno, who will wear the number five shirt, can play on the left side of midfield and adds competition for Lucas Digne, who joined from Everton for £25 million last year.
