KATHMANDU: The government has launched an operation to rescue 19 Nepalis who were held hostage in Malaysia while working abroad.

After learning that they had been held hostage for the past eight days, the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers’ office became aware of the situation and began taking steps to rescue those who had reached in Malaysia for foreign employment.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has instructed the relevant agencies through Chief Secretary Shankdas Bairagi to take all necessary steps for immediate rescue as this matter is serious, Prime Minister’s Press Coordinator Surya Kiran Sharma informed.

A video of the agents who came to Malaysia for foreign employment and held them hostage in a building in the nearby city of Kyelang has been made public.

He claims that the company acted excessively by forcing him to do other work instead of providing the work specified in the contract.

They claimed that they were even beaten when they spoke out against the company’s pressure. The stranded workers claim that they were taken from the company and placed in a building room, where they were told not to leave.

The hostages have demanded that the government arrange for their immediate release and return to Nepal.
