KATHMANDU: The Narayangadh-Muglin road section, which has been closed every day for four days for construction work, will reopen for two days to accommodate the Maghe Sankranti fair at Devghatdham.

The road section will reopen for traffic on Jan 14 and 15. One of the Hindu festivals, Maghe Sankranti, falls on Jan 15 this year.

The work being done by blocking the road for four hours in the afternoon on those two days, according to Chief District Officer Asman Tamang, will be postponed. Given the large number of pilgrims traveling to Devghatdham, the road will be kept open.

Traffic is currently stopped on that section of road from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and work is being done to clear the side hill in preparation for the construction of bridges on the road section.

Devotees from all over the country, including neighboring countries, come to Devghat to take a holy bath.

According to Badri Adhikari, Chairperson of the Devghat Area Development Committee, over 500,000 devotees are expected to visit Devghat this year.

Bathing in Devghat during the Makar Mela or fair is widely believed by Hindus to bring good fortune and well-being.
