Citizenship controversy: Argument that Rabi is an American citizen

KATHMANDU: The constitutional bench of the Supreme Court is debating Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s citizenship dispute.

The hearing on Lamichhane’s eligibility to be an MP is still ongoing. The writ is currently being debated by lawyers.

Arguing on behalf of the writ petitioner Yuvaraj Poudel on Friday, advocate Surendra Bhandari argued that Rabi, who is also the home minister, is an American citizen.

According to him, a person with a visa in an American passport is not considered a Nepali citizen.
