KATHMANDU: The new year 2023 began today, according to the Gregorian calendar. It is said to have begun after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

This Samvat is celebrated as ‘New Year’s Eve’ in tourist-heavy areas of Kathmandu such as Thamel, Bouddha, Pokhara, Sauraha, and Lumbini.
