KATHMANDU: The body of Nirakar Pandey of Jhapa Birtamode, who died last Wednesday in a fire at the Grand Diamond City Hotel and Casino Complex in Poipet, Cambodia, is being transported to Nepal.

When the casino complex caught fire, Nirakar was on the 12th floor of the 17-storey building.

The fire started on Thursday night. Although the cause of the fire in the building is unknown, it is thought to have started due to an electrical short.

He jumped from the hotel after a lengthy conversation with the family. Efforts are being made, according to his father Agni, to bring the body back to Nepal.

Nepalis in Cambodia, he claims, have also gathered to bring his son’s body back to Nepal.

Friday is a public holiday in Nepal on the occasion of Tamu Lhosar and Saturday is a regular government holiday. Sunday is New Year’s Day in Cambodia.

As of now, the family has stated that the process of bringing his body to Nepal will take a few days.

At least 27 people were killed in the incident, according to Reuters.
