People celebrating Lhosar in Tundikhel by gathering in Basantpur and performing various tableaus reflecting the Gurung culture.
KATHMANDU: Gurung community is celebrating ‘Tamu Lhosar’ festival today.
Tamu Lhosar festival is held on the 15th of Pusan every year. Tola Lhosar is another name for this Lhosar. ‘Tamu’ refers to the Gurung community, and ‘Lhosar’ refers to the New Year. The Gurung community celebrates Tamu Lhosar as the New Year.
Similar to other Lhosars, the Gurung people also represents the years with a cycle of 12 years representing various creatures (garuda, serpent, horse, sheep, monkey, bird, dog, deer, mouse, cow, tiger and cat).

The Gurung community commemorates this festival by bidding farewell to ‘To Lho’ (Tiger class) and welcoming ‘He Lho’ (Cat class). Tamus in Kathmandu celebrated Lhosar in Tundikhel today.
People celebrating Lhosar in Tundikhel by gathering in Basantpur and performing various tableaus reflecting the Gurung culture.
Some are dressed in Gurung costumes and performing Ghatu dances, while others are enjoying the Lhosar festival by playing traditional musical instruments.
