KATHMANDU: The parties in the power coalition are sharing key positions in the state administration.

In Baluwatar, Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Maoist Chairperson Prachanda are debating who will become Prime Minister first.

The main topic of this debate is who will be appointed to executive positions such as Prime Minister, President, and Speaker.

At this point, the leaders participating in the discussion have stated that a new option in the power coalition has been presented in which the neutral president will retain the Maoists’ support and Deuba will become the first prime minister.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s seven-day deadline for submitting claims to the Prime Minister expires at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The Congress-led power coalition is in the final stages of power sharing.

After a step-by-step discussion among internal and top leaders within the party, the alliance meeting is now taking place at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar.

The Congress and the Maoist Center, which play critical roles in the coalition, are working tirelessly to form a government led by them.

The Maoist center’s leaders are also holding informal talks with the CPN-UML, while the Congress has not ended its dialogue with the UML. Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi met UML Chairperson KP Oli at his residence on Sunday morning.

According to Baluwatar sources, the final exercise to reach an agreement on the formation of the coalition government is currently underway.

So far, there has been no agreement on who will be the first Prime Minister between Prime Minister and Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN Maoist Center Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Deuba has proposed that he be Prime Minister for the first two years, and that Dahal, Chairperson of the Maoist Party, and Madhav Kumar, Chairperson of the CPN-Unified Socialist Party of Nepal, be Prime Minister for the next two years.

However, the leaders who took part in the discussion stated that Dahal believes he should be prime minister in his first term.
